Summer is in full swing. We went from cold and rainy to hot and, well, hotter, in what seems like overnight. While I enjoy the summer, this one feels a little more “stay in the AC,” as opposed to “sit by the pool.” This is a time to remember how fortunate we are. We live in a safe, climate-controlled environment and most, if not all, of us have what we need.

Time gives you perspective. In the markets and in life. My perspective is very different than when I started in this industry nearly 25 years ago, and different still since we started our own firm a little over 10 years ago. I have a better perspective on what’s important. 25 years ago it was about “take any client you can and grow as much as possible.” There was a lot of pressure to make money and many of the people I started out with didn’t make it in this business. Now the goal is to take on less and do more. My goal is not to bring in a bunch of new clients. Instead, I’d rather serve those of you we have much better. Sure, we’d like to bring in a few more clients this year but we need to make sure we are the best fit for them. Thinking like this would have been a luxury 25 years ago.
Julie (our office manager, for those who haven’t met her) and I have been talking about taking a diferent tack. Most firms are looking to expand their social media presence. We are thinking about turning ours off. You won’t see us starting a Tic Tok page. We figure if we put the energy into continuing to improve our client experience, the rest will take care of itself. We’ll get back the energy we would have spent on a shiny webpage or a robust Instagram following and direct it to our clients.
